What is it?
The Bowen Technique is primarily a remedial treatment. It differs from
many other therapies in that it does not attempt to inflict the will of
the therapist onto the client, instead it offers the body the opportunity
to restore structural integrity. The technique consists of a series of
gentle rolling type moves over muscle and soft tissue using a light pressure
and may be applied through light clothing. Between these moves are short breaks
where the client is left to allow the body to respond to each stage of
the treatment and make the subtle adjustments to rebalance, relieve tension
and reduce pain.
The Bowen Technique addresses the body
as a whole rather than just the presenting symptom: it embraces
the physical, chemical, emotional and mental aspects of each person
receiving a treatment. The result is a positive, healthy impact on a
person by providing more energy and an overall sense of well being.
