Nutrition

What is it?

Nutritional Therapy is a holistic approach to health and nutrition, concentrating on the underlying cause rather than simply treating the symptoms. It is a scientifically based complementary medicine which can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional medicine or other therapies. It can help to improve general health by enhancing the body’s own mechanisms to promote self healing.

Nutritious foods in their natural, unprocessed state provide the body with many nutrients necessary for health. However, food alone may not be enough to support you body through this process, therefore supplements may also be recommended to help improve metabolic function, correct nutritional deficiencies and support specific organs. Given the appropriate nutrients the body has a tremendous inbuilt capacity to repair and heal itself.

Consultation

Before the initial consultation, you will be asked to fill out a comprehensive health questionnaire. Please note that fees reflect time spent before, during and after consultations in order to prepare a program specific to your needs.

Initial Consultation - £60 (60-75 minutes) The initial consultation involves questions about significant areas of your health, family history, lifestyle and diet and clarification of your ultimate health goals will be identified. Once all this information has been gathered, a fully personalised nutritional programme is put together for you that will be posted or emailed within a few days of your appointment. This will incorporate:

  • Detailed dietary guidelines
  • Supplement recommendations
  • Meal and recipe suggestions
  • Lifestyle guidance
  • Recommended tests, if appropriate.
  • Email support between consultations to help you stay motivated.
  • Follow-up Consultation - £40 (approximately 30-45 minutes) This typically occurs around 4-6 weeks after your initial consultation. At these sessions your progress is assessed by looking at how your symptoms have changed and results from any tests that have been performed will be discussed. Your nutritional programme will be re-assessed and modified to ensure that you continue to progress towards improved health and ultimately meeting your goals.

    Weight Management Follow-up - £25 (approximately 30 minutes)

If after your initial consultation your main priority is to lose weight, then regular check-ups on a fortnightly basis are recommended to keep you focused and motivated to carry out your weight loss programme. I will discuss the foods that will help your body to release its energy supply slowly, helping to control your blood sugar and minimise cravings. In addition, your weight, BMI, body fat%, blood pressure and waist to hip measurements will be taken and monitored at each consultation. Also recipe ideas will be given and tips to support you between visits will be offered. Email correspondence will also help to keep you focused on achieving your goals.

    Testing

Sometimes testing is recommended and will focuses on identifying and addressing nutritional, metabolic and gastro-intestinal imbalances as well toxin effects that underlie chronic disease. If undertaken, this gives me a far better understanding of the underlying issues.
